A Well Deserved Success!
The 5th Annual Latin Mixx Conference & Latin Mixx Awards proved to be an even bigger success than years prior! "I knew by bringing the Conference to New York City, even in these tough economic conditions was exactly what we needed." said Kevin "Pills" Montano, Owner and Founder of The Latin Mixx. The 2009 conference definitely brought out a lot of support, and gave a lot of much needed enthusiasm, advice and motivation for all attendees. The first night of events kicked of at none other than NYC's most famous venue for emerging artists performances, SOBs. Performances by Juganot, T Weapons, Ekko, Kuko alamala & Buda, Tali & Messiah as well as Sito Rocks. The event which stole the night was the turntablist showcase featuring award winning DJs Spin One, Yonny, DP1, Supa Dave, Fat Fingaz, Spictacular and of course Finesse. The crowd was amazed with all of the excitement. Twitter was on fire as DJs in the crowd watched in awe and filled with inspiration as they watched their fellow DJs rock the turntables. The second Day of events featured at The Times Center, located in none other than Times Square. The ambiance of The Times Center gave the conference an energetic and positive setting. The Art & Sneaker Exhibitions were positioned in the front gallery featured work by Paper Monster, Leon Rainbow, Rebel Aire & Pink Eye. Expo tables featuring Azad Watches, Lifebeat, Billboard, DTM, NY Al Dia, Music Industry Online and many others, lined the grand hallway offering takeaways and positive information as attendees made there way in to panels and full DJ Showcase provided by Musically Yours, Denon, Rane, QSC, Scratchlive and Serato. "It was refreshing to experience how fun and inviting the Latin Mixx Conference was."Diony Concepcion, President of Mixtapekings.com Panels were extremely informative and were well put together. Panelist hit every topic that is important today. The audience was very responsive and involved. It was an important day for all. Much needed insight into publishing and licensing was offered by Porfirio Pina, Director of Latin Publisher Writings for BMI. Latin Mixx All Star DJs, expressed their gratitude for support and offered their opinions on the direction of Latin music in today's Latin society and culture. The day ended with the Latin Mixx performance stage featuring performances by Ekko, T Weaponz, Tha Heights, Steelo, Pobrefella, Don Ivan, Joelii and Castro & Gambino. The days after party at Suzie Wongs featured an intimate Latin Mixx fashion show.
The Latin Mixx Awards 2009 The most anticipated event of the week, The Latin Mixx Awards took place on The Times Center stage. A 7pm red carpet was flooded with nominees, artists, executives, attendees and press, dressed to impress. Model Latina's Jessica Caban, Carolina Arellano, Christine Juarbe and Actress April Hernandez beautifully dazzled the red carpet.
The Awards Show started off with laughter after comedian Ruperto Vanderpool took the stage. Award winning step team "The Players" left the audience on the edge of their seats. Dominican phenomenon Omega made a surprise appearance via satellite to present the Best Tropical DJ Award. Nominees, Presenters and Awarded DJs were all deserving of the roles that they played that evening. There was a mid show violinist performance by Svet , who wowed the crowd after playing the official "DJ Threat anthem, We Gonna Make It, by Jadakiss".
You could tell that everything about the show was carefully thought out, even special remembrance was given to the influencers in music who passed away, through heartfelt video production. The highlight of the show was the DJ Icon Award which was presented to DJ Enuff of Hot 97, presented by DJs Kast One, Prostyle and LBoogs they all shared stories of their much admired and respected role model. Enuff's acceptance speech touched many people after thanking those who helped him along the way, such as Angie Martinez of Hot 97 "the voice of New York" and the late DJ Threat who gave him the idea to start the Heavy Hitters and thought him about brotherhood. “I will definitely be supporting the Latin Mixx in years to come, this even is Beautiful!” DJ Enuff- Hot 97 The show ended with a special thanks and standing ovation for Kevin "Pills" Montano, and special gift from Azad Watches. “The Latin Mixx Conference delivered everything promised and more.
